MCP Setup Guide

Claude

Claude Setup...

After installing both Claude and ForensicDbg, launch Claude and open the upper left corner menu and navigate to the "File > Settings..." option.

A side by side of the Claude settings menu and the Developer panel.

From there select the "Developer" side menu option and then click the "Edit Config" button in the "Local MCP servers" panel. This will select the "claude_desktop_config.json" file in the explorer. Open it in the text editor of your choice.

Right at the top of the config file you should see the "mcpServers" JSON object. Add the ForensicDbg server details, including the correct path and save your changes.

"mcpServers": {
  "ForensicDbg": {
    "command": "C:\\Program Files\\ForensicDbg\\x64\\ForensicMcp64.exe"
  }
},

Now we just need to restart Claude to make sure we did it correctly. You can force it to exit using the "File > Exit" menu option.

Check the "Developer" option in the "Settings" menu once again after restarting Claude. You should see ForensicDbg all set up and ready to go! Our last two steps are to give it the permissions it needs to work without having to bug you over and over again. Move further down the side to the "Connectors" menu option and select it.

Open the drop down menu on the right hand side of the screen and select the "Always allow" option. Next it is time to move back to the menu options on the left and select the "Capabilities" option.

Open the drop down menu on the right hand side of the screen and select the "Tools already loaded" option. Now Claude can use all the ForensicDbg commands and tools it needs to track down and solve your hardest bugs!

Codex Setup...

After installing both Codex and ForensicDbg, launch Codex and open the "Edit" menu and select the  "Settings..." option.

A side by side of the Codex Settings menu option and the Plugins panel with the Add MCP Server option selected.

From there select the "Plugins" side menu option and then open the "Add" drop down menu on the upper right and select "Add MCP server". Type ForensicDbg in the "Name" field then the path to "ForensicMcp64.exe" in the "Command to launch" field. Then hit "Save".

If everything is set up correctly you should now see "forensicdbg" listed under the "MCPs" tab in the "Plugins Menu". Codex is now ready to use the ForensicDbg MCP server.

Changing the Claude setting to Approve for me.

Qwen Code

One last helpful change you can do is to click on the "Ask for approval" text below the main chat box and switch it to "Approve for me" so that Codex can operate more independently without having to ask you for permission while it uses ForensicDbg to track down and solve your hardest bugs!
