Setup Guide
Downloading...
The only place you can currently access the test builds of ForensicDbg is to get an invite to and then join our private Discord server.
Once there you can navigate to the #release-notes channel where you will find 32 and 64 bit download links for all recent ForensicDbg versions. We recommend starting by downloading the 64 bit version of the latest release.
Installing...
When you download ForensicDbg, you will receive an installer msi file which you will launch to begin the installation process. The file we are using for this example is called “ForensicDbg64_1.0.123.0.msi” and will install the 64 bit version of release 1.0.123.0.
The launched installer should resemble the left image. You just need to click the “Install” button, give permission to Windows if it requests it, and let the installer work. When it is completed the installer should resemble the right image and you can close the installer or launch ForensicDbg immediately.
Registering...
ForensicDbg will currently run with all features even while unregistered, but that will not always be the case. Please reach out to us on our Discord if you are testing the tool and need a license.
The left image shows ForensicDbg in the unregistered state. After receiving your license you can apply it by navigating in the tool to the “Help > Enter License…” menu option. An “Enter License” dialog box will appear where you can enter the license text you received. After the license is successfully applied, the window on the right will pop up letting you know and the top bar will no longer say “UNREGISTERED”.
Updating...
ForensicDbg is in active development and you should regularly be able to update to newer, more powerful, more stable versions of the tool.
When a new version is available a “Help > Update to…” menu option will be available to you. Just select it and the tool will download the latest version and start the normal install process. Just go through it as usual and you will be able to use the latest version.
